I am a Sport and Exercise Psychologist in Training (SEPiT), and I am working under supervision on the BASES SEPAR which will ultimately lead to my accreditation as a fully trained Sport and Exercise Psychologist. I have always had a passion for sport and despite not making it to the elite level in football I knew I wanted to work in the sporting world. I studied for a BSc in Sport Science and during this time my interest in sport psychology ignited. I was playing for a local team near my university and despite me being physically fit, technically competent and training every week there was something missing. This is when I became aware of the importance of psychology and how important it was for my own performance. If I had explored becoming better mentally, I would have been able to cope with the situations I encountered better. I then went on to study an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology and now want to use my knowledge to help people the best I can.
As a sport psychologist I want to work collaboratively with people to provide them with the tools required to overcome the challenges they may face and be comfortable in dealing with them should they arise again in the future. I am a strong believer that the client is the expert on themselves and has a vital role in the relationship. I hope to make the client become aware of what is important to them to overcome challenges as well as maintaining or improving performance and wellbeing.
