Togetherness - The Optimal Zone of Us

For years I believed that one of my passions was learning about leadership styles and approaches. This was true to a point. But in more recent years I have realised that this is actually not my ultimate driver for learning more and improving. My real passion is togetherness. Whenever I reflect on teams I have been part of, including my family, I now understand that it’s the sense of belonging, connectivity and ultimately togetherness that matters most to me.When I was in teams where everyone trusted each other, relied and cared for one another, even if you weren’t always friends. This was when I loved being part of a team. As a father this has been so important to me, that my children always feel a powerful sense of belonging. It’s that sense of this is where I belong and I would do anything for this group of people that I’ve always loved the most. This is what aligned with me on a deep and personal level. As I have studied and practiced togetherness in different forms over the years. I have come to realise that leadership is nothing more than creating a sense of ‘usness’ an environment of belonging. I’ve also realised that great leadership is knowing how to do this in any team.As the great Chicago bulls coach, Phil Jackson used to quote, “For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.” Rudyard Kipling
