In brief a psychologist helps us understand human behaviour. I work with a number of teams and individual atheletes on issues such as resilience, emotional regulation, confidence, communication and values although there is so much more than can be described here!. I can work with you to develop an understanding of how psychology can improve performance, and develop skills and techniques to develop your ability to thrive in competition.
Our first step would be to have a conversation about you, to decide if you feel comfortable working with me and how I may be able to help. Within counselling we discuss the "therapeutic alliance", and I am a firm believer that a mutually trusting relationship is beneficial. This intake interview is followed by a needs analysis to further understand your needs.
The needs analysis outlines key areas for us to work on together. I recommend a minimum of two sessions, and ideally between six and ten. Behaviour change usually takes this amount of time, although our ongoing relationship will depend on your goals and expectations.
Sometimes you might not want to talk about psychology, or your performance, and instead just need an ear to listen. As someone who values the environment, I believe in the power of green therapy, and I'm more than happy to walk and talk in green spaces (dog companion optional).
As a practitioner your confidentiality is imperative and I follow the BASES code of conduct. I have an enhanced DBS check, and have undertaken safeguarding training in order to ensure I am operating to the highest ethical standards.
